Mark 1:10-11 (KJV)
"And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
The point I would like to make is that one of the greatest things we do as fathers is bless our children. I personally would never try to do what my wife does because I could not begin to do it as well as she does. In light of a mother's profound love we often as fathers feel less than adequate. I think we are missing it. We do not need to be what mothers are, but we need to be who we are as fathers. We have been given something very powerful and that is to affirm and strengthen our children by pronouncing upon them words of blessing.
It is amazing how we seek our father's approval. The words that he speaks have a huge impact upon our destiny. Our male children need to hear us say the things that only we can say. We need to let them know, through what we speak, how awesome and wonderful they are. Within them are the seeds of greatness. We have no idea of how far they may go and what they may do in life. So I encourage you as fathers to support your sons with words of love and affirmation.
I knew that when it came to my daughters, I would always let them know how wonderful they were. I affirmed them often and let them know how important they were to me. Without a doubt I believe that those words that I have spoken in the past and still speak to them have a great deal to do with how well they will live life. I knew that if I loved them correctly, no young man would be able to break into their lives and tell them things that they were not already aware of. My words were a covering and a protection for them and remain such.
Let me give you an example. When Samuel came to David's house asking to see his sons, all of them came before Samuel except David. Finally Samuel asked, "Are there anymore?" Jesse said, "There is one out in the field. His name is David." The prophet asked for him to be brought in. In a moment Samuel affirmed David as the coming King. The point I would like to make is that we need to open our eyes to what God has in mind for our children.
In our children are the seeds of greatness for the future. God has a plan for their lives. It may be a bigger plan than you can see right now. Let me affirm you as the people of God. Fathers bless your children with the words you speak over them. It will probably be one of the greatest things that you will ever do. To single parents I would finally like to say that God promises to be for you whatever is necessary for your children to have the very best chance at life. He said that He would be a father to the fatherless (Psalm 63:5). He has also said that He would be a husband to those who did not have one. In other words, your children are going to be okay because it matters to God that they get the best possible start in life. So bless you fathers and all you as parents. You are the greatest and I want you to know that God is with you.
