Isaiah 40:31 KJV
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
If we are called upon to wait; my question is, Is there a right way to wait? Does waiting mean doing nothing? Isaiah 40:31 suggests that they wait upon the Lord renew their strength. The word wait in the King James can also be translated hope. I would suggest to you that waiting in not passive, but involves active expectation. When we wait, it carries the meaning to abide, expect, linger, pause, remain, rest, stay, or tarry. In other words we are not empty. We have purpose, desire and expectation. There is vision during a time of waiting. You can expect the doors to open. You can expect that the coming year will be full of blessing. You can expect your strength to increase. Those are the things the Isaiah 40:31 are saying. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. If you look at it carefully, you will clearly see that there are degrees of increase. This is not an empty headed, empty spirited, desperate condition. This place of waiting on God is full of hope and expectation for the future.
King David had this nailed down in his heart in Psalms 5:3. Each morning I will bring my request to You and wait expectantly. When there is a heart of expectation, it makes you aware. You heart is ready and open and on the lookout for the request that you have made. When we wait on the Lord, sometimes bad things happen yet David believed for God’s favour.
Expectancy in your heart stabilizes you and hardens you against unexpected and difficult situations that may come your way. You are not moved by what you see and hear, but you are moved by what you know. Psalm 112:4 says when darkness surrounds you, light will break in. The word there, break, can be translated burst in. May I suggest suddenly your health will improve? Suddenly the right person will be there and advocate on behalf of you so that the problem will be removed. You will find that God will direct you in your financial situations. You will also see God giving you wisdom as you deal with your children.
It is important that we do not settle for where we are. Often people feel they have reached their limits. They may feel this is as good as it is going to be. Maybe it is time to take it up a notch, increase your expectations. Ultimately we are a blessed people in whom a blessing resides and our paths grows brighter and brighter. Sometimes when we hear all of this, we feel we are not cheery enough. This is just too much. It is beyond me. My life has not been like that. May I quieten your heart? Take it a step at a time. Any journey begins with a first step and that is being in agreement with what God says about you. Take your eyes off your circumstances and believe that God has blessed you. Take a deep breath and realize it is in you. It has already been given. It is there for you. Dare to believe it!
