Luke 1:45 AMP
And blessed [spiritually fortunate and favoured by God] is she who believed and confidently trusted that there would be a fulfillment of the things that were spoken to her [by the angel sent] from the Lord. Luke 1:45 AMP
The creator giving Himself to become the creature. This narrative has been explained since ancient times as the incarnation of God becoming man and living among us. We clearly understand from the scripture that God had a plan and that was to redeem anyone who chose to believe upon Him. The word believe was the word that was used of Mary. She heard what God said to her and agreed with it and believed the thing that God had spoken would happen.
When we share in the gospel, that act of believing as Mary did is at the heart of our faith. It is a simple story of this peasant young woman who is chosen by God and favoured to become the mother of Jesus. The story back then was unbelievable that God should come in such a humble manner and enter our world. The circumstances were anything but ideal. She was a young woman engaged to be married. She and her husband to be were required at the last minute to take a difficult journey on a donkey with her at full term. There was no place for them at that time because so many were being required to travel to register for the Roman taxation. For the Son of God to be born in a barn in a stable in such a humble manner is beyond our imaginations.
The story is difficult to believe. It is fraught with problems and yet in the middle of all the craziness God is at work. There are wisemen that are on their way. There are angelic choirs heralding his coming. There are special visitations that were happening and were about to happen. Even in the midst of their poverty, provisions were going to be made for them at the right time. There is a mix here of seeming randomness and the sublime. I come back to the verse I gave to you. Mary was happy and was to be envied because she believed that what was said would happen.
Ultimately it is not about the circumstances or even how the circumstances may appear. Sometimes in our lives there is a huge inconveniences. There may even be a medley of things that are unfathomable yet God is at work in a way that is so huge, so cosmic that the small inconveniences were put into perspective. One humble maiden believed that God would fulfill that word that He had spoken. I do no know that it gets any better than that. You and I in the midst of the unexplainable; trusting and believing that what God has said He is good for. That is the heart of the Christmas message. The miracle of God speaking to us and being good for what He has said. Enjoy your Christmas season. Make the most of it.
Enjoy your family. It is good to be alive.
