Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7KJV
much needed time and usually marks that beginning of our summer. It is important for all of us that we have times where we can get away, be with those that we love, and reflect. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us how we can do this without even taking a holiday.
It is true that no matter how far we run we still take ourselves along to wherever we run. These verses in 1 Peter 5 give
to us a real key in how to live well. We do not just want to do life, but we would like to do it in such a way that when we arrive at the end of our journey, we know that we have lived well. You might ask the question how is this done? We need to be secure in God’s love. We can, if we choose, trust God. Our trust has a way of bringing rest to our hearts. We can rest in the fact that we do not need to do things to receive God’s love. His love is there for us so we can rest in it.
How do I enter into this rest that God has for me? According to verse 7 it is by casting all our cares on Him. It is
important that we cast our cares on Him because verse 8 says Satan is looking to devour us. Devour means to eat up. Satan does this with the cares of life. In light of this I cast all my cares on Jesus. If we do not cast our cares, we will be left with anxiety.
At times we can feel that no one cares. Insecurities can come in because we do not feel we are enough. We start to carry
around that which is not ours to carry. The first important word here is cast. The word cast means to hurl. In other words it means to throw the long ball and get it away from you as quickly as you can. The second important word here is care. The meaning of this word is to be torn in two different directions. These are things that feed upon your mind and tear you in two.
Distractions like these draw us away from the Lord. They cause double mindedness and insecurities. Distractions can be a major killer among God’s people. I can get rid of all this by being real with myself that He cares for me. This is the heart of the matter. This truth is our starting point. As we do this we agree with what God says about us. As you rest this weekend and take time to be with your family it is my prayer that in your rest you will experience God’s love and kindness in a refreshing way.
