And the man [Jacob} increased expediently.
I came to the greater Vancouver area after that time and received $100 a month for being their pastor. I could not live on that with a family yet I realized I was to pastor in that community. I was able to get a job working for Canada Post. During that time of small beginnings, I trusted that God somehow would provide our needs. The church increased and flourished. We again changed pastorates and began a new challenge. The same lack faced us again in the new pastorate. Yet I knew that God was good for His word and the increase would come. Over time that church also flourished and grew in every way.
In Psalm 105:24 the psalmist commenting on Jacob's life says, “And He increased His people greatly and made them stronger than their enemies.” Verses such as these are powerful and reassuring. We again find ourselves in a church plant with small beginnings. It is important that we establish ourselves in God's promises. In all the churches I have pastored, there were many ups and downs, but not because that is God's way, but because there was a need to establish God's word in the hearts of His people.
In Psalm 115:14 the Lord shall increase you more and more, you and your children. You are blessed in the Lord which made heaven and earth. Increase in God's way and our increase must also be by God's way. There are many places in the bible that give scriptural proof to this principle of the blessing of God's increase. It is God's desire that this increase unfolds in our lives. He has put a blessing on us because of our reltionship with Jesus Christ and also with each other. We need to be around people who think and dream big and refuse to give up on the blessing that God has placed on them.
