“Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled.”
When the soldiers took hold of Jesus, the idea carried to us is that they forcibly arrested Him. Moments prior to that, they were all prostrate at His feet. Jesus was aware that He could not be taken by force. The soldiers were also aware that something very unusual had happened to them. That moment of power had shaken them yet their orders were to seize Jesus. At this moment Jesus fully embraces that concept that was foretold of Him. He would be like a lamb with a rope tied about Him, taking Him where they desired to go. This picture of the Lamb of God shows Jesus quietly allowing the soldiers to take Him away. He did not resist or fight what was happening. He was fulfilling all the biblical prophesies in regards to Him.
I believe that those who took Him were under the full weight of the supernatural events that had just transpired. The high priest servant’sear had been supernaturally replaced after being severed;hundreds of men had fallen under the power of God at Jesus’ feet. Yet in all of His power He allows himself to be led away. Those leaders knew that just a few days prior Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead. The power of God through Jesus was increasing and becoming more demonstrative. His popularity was increasing to the point of His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. This Jesus who had lived His whole lifeaccording to Acts 10:38; this Jesus who had been doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil is now being led like a sheep. The amazing thing is that Jesus knew, even in the midst of this horrible situation, He was doing His father’s will. What was happening was profoundly unjust yet He trusted Himself to His Father’s keeping.
There are situations that are unfair and unjust, but there is little or nothing that you can do to change it. That is where you commit yourself to your loving heavenly Father and find grace and peace. Your options are to become bitter, angry, mistrusting, and tainted. You have a choice. We know that God’s plan is for good no matter what anyone would try to do to us. Maybe you are looking in on someone you love in an undeserved situation. All of this takes our commitment to trust in God and not in man. Evil people may think they have the power, but remember this: that God is redemptive and it is not over yet.
