For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than
any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of
soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner
of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
of God it has this capacity to show itself actively alive. The Holy Spirit has a way of connecting it to our hearts in a living manner. It is not dead or powerless. In fact, it is called powerful. Another word for powerful is energetic.
In the Old Testament in the vision of Ezekiel’s dry bones the word of God comes and says prophesy to these dead bones. That life giving force is within the word of God. It has a way of taking hold of you and making you alive to its message.
It is described as sharper than any two edged sword. God’s word has the ability to be incisive. As a two edged sword
it pierces which means penetrates. The word of God has the ability to go deep within our person. The scripture says dividing us between soul and spirit. Another way of saying it is it goes through. The description carries on saying that the word of God is a discerner of the will and hearts of men. It could be said in this way, the word of God is a sifter and an analyzer of your thoughts. The intent of the heart can mean the pondering or the thinking out or your reflections.
The next time you read the word of God, allow it to do its work. When you speak it over your life or the life of another realize the power and the potential of God’s word. The word of God goes right to the issue. God’s word helps us to understand. In our confusing day and age when there are so many competing attentions for our lives and our thoughts, we need to know the power of God’s word more than ever.
The word of God is just as relevant today as it was thousands of years before. The heart of man has not changed
and God has not changed. The reassurance and answers that it gave long ago it still gives today. You and I can know the heart and the desire of God through the word of God. This week when you read the scripture, be reminded of this verse and its power. When you meditate the word and speak it over your lives, always be mindful of its working power.
