Matthew 7:24 (KJV)
" Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock"
Often people say to me "I don't have time to read the Bible or to seek God in my decisions." We all have the same amount of time. None of us have any more or less than another when it comes to the 24 hours in a day. What we do with our time is of the utmost importance because the time spent is a very clear indication of our values. The important thing is to ask ourselves the question, "where do we spend our time?". The other thing that is worthy of mention is where we set the value. In other words, we plan for and take time to do what we prioritize. What we prioritize we practice. When I was young in order to be able to become accomplished at an instrument, it took time and I had to practice.
I know that some of these things I have shared seem to be pretty direct. It takes time to be in the word of God, but the more we prioritize our time of reading God's word the more we receive and the more we practice it. Some will always argue that it doesn't matter what I think. According to this parable, it does matter. It matters that you think right and that you do right because you are building your foundation. The foundation upon which you build is not only hearing the word, but doing the word. It's hard to distinguish those who are hearers of the word and those who are doers of the word until a storm hits. This portion of the scripture does not say we are exempt from storms. What it says is that we have a foundation that will hold us when the storm does hit. That's good for us to remember when we are going through things that we do not understand.
