Acts 10:28 (NIV)
“He said to them, “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him.”
I have often asked myself, “Why can’t I do certain things? What is it in me that holds me back from a daring new beginning?” God has many marvelous opportunities in front of us that will stretch our imaginations and religious traditions. If we are not careful, we will begin to justify where we are at and its comfortability by making foolish excuses. The power of religious tradition holds Peter so strongly that when confronted by God in a vision, he refused the Lord three times. If we are to become all that we need to be, we can no longer give ourselves the permission to settle for God’s best. It may be difficult for you to see all of what God will do, but I assure you that He has great things in store for you if you choose not to limit Him.
Something I have learned is to deal with the anger in my life. Anger is very crippling and holds us back from clearly seeing how God may want to take us beyond where we are. Let go of anger and listen carefully to the voice of God and you may hear the Holy Spirit saying to you, “It is time to step up.” I am sure people have disappointed you, let you down, were not there at your important moments, forgot about something that was special to you, did not remember a special day in your life, or perhaps did not understand all of what was being asked of you. It is time to let it go. Another thing that I have learned is that if you don’t have it, you do not need it. People will always think that they need more of what they have to do what has to be done. God knows what He has gifted you with. He has given you enough to begin. He has also given to you the power to pull it off. I want to remind you that no one can do it better than you at being you.
In closing, any time God is going to take you to a new level, you will need to confront all of the excuses that lurk in your heart. It may take a really deep work of the Holy Spirit to search out what is hidden in your heart that keeps you from doing all God wants you to do and being all God wants you to be. Be assured that God is committed to the process and that He has a plan for your life and we need to deal with every issue that would hold us back.
