He goes out weeping bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.
The value had two sides to it. It was valued because it was seen that it would sustain them and it was valued in hopes of a harvest. Unless we understand the tension that exists when we sow seed we will always be tempted to get into fear and withhold that which should be sown. The scripture answers this dilemma by continuing and saying that this sower shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.
The scripture does not show the time between sowing and reaping. I believe it is very purposeful. It is deliberate in every way creating within our hearts a vision for giving. The vision in giving needs to be clear and simplistic. I am sure there is a lot of history between sowing and reaping. Yet in this scripture none of that is mentioned. Jesus, in the New Testament, said that even a cup of cold water given in a disciples name isn't without reward. Jesus also drew attention to the widow who gave her offering. It was busy and there were probably hundreds of people in the temple. In all of that He notices what is happening. He sees the things that lead to harvest.
One of the things the enemy endeavors to do to us is to isolate us and make us feel that what we do has little or no value. Jesus looks at us and says those things that no one else sees I see. The best way I could describe it is the intimate look of the creator. He understands the principles of creation. He is watching you intimately and lovingly. He observes our hearts when it comes to the issue of giving. God's management of creation is so intimate that when a sparrow falls, He sees it. Every time you are tempted to devalue the power of your sowing seed know that your adversary understands the power of your seed sowing. He knows the principle by which the creation works. Yet God even more deeply and compassionately sees you. He sets the principles of creation to bless you and to increase you so that shouts of joy will be your inheritance after sowing precious seed.
